Where things stand in November 2026
The 2026 National Senior Certificate exams started on 13 October and run until 26 November 2026. Mathematics Paper 1 and Paper 2 were written on 23 and 26 October; Life Sciences and the home-language papers continue into mid-November.
Most universities closed their main applications for the 2027 intake between June and October. If you applied, your offers are usually provisional and depend on your final results. If you did not, you still have options, which we cover below.
Your most important job right now is the exams. Everything else on this page can be prepared in an hour.
Funding windows: what is open and what has closed
NSFAS
Applications for the 2027 academic year opened on 18 September 2026 and closed on 31 October 2026. NSFAS said there would be no extension. If you applied, track your status on the myNSFAS portal and respond quickly to any request for documents.
To qualify, your combined household income must be R350 000 a year or less, or R600 000 for students with disabilities. Run the 30-second eligibility check to see where you stand.
Funza Lushaka (teaching)
The bursary for future teachers opened on 1 October 2026. Returning bursars must re-apply by 30 November 2026. New applicants have until 31 January 2027, which means you can apply after you know your results.
Everything else
University financial aid offices, SETAs, foundations and corporate programmes run their own windows. Filter them in the bursary finder and save the ones that fit.
Results day and the two weeks after it
Results for the class of 2026 are expected in mid-January 2027. The Department of Basic Education announces the exact date, so treat any earlier date you see online as unconfirmed.
- Check your statement. Make sure your name and ID number are correct.
- Recalculate your APS with your final marks in the TPT-sakrekenaar.
- Consider a re-mark or re-check if a subject sits just below a requirement. For the class of 2025, the window ran for about two weeks after results, from 13 to 27 January 2026, at R120 per subject for a re-mark.
- Upload your results to NSFAS, your bursary provider and your university portal.
No offer yet? You still have routes
Some universities accept late or space-available applications after results are released, especially for diplomas and extended programmes. The Department of Higher Education and Training also runs the Central Application Clearing House, which matches students who have no offer with institutions that still have places.
Public TVET colleges, private higher-education institutions and a gap year to rewrite a subject are all legitimate paths. Read how to take a gap year without losing momentum.

If you are in Grade 11 now
Your cycle starts in a few months. Many universities open applications for the 2028 intake between March and August 2027, and recent NSFAS cycles have opened in September. Use your Grade 11 final marks to calculate a working APS, take the career assessment and save target programmes to My EduHub so the deadlines appear on your dashboard.
